Recycling Engagement Officer
We are looking for someone to join the team who can contribute to our marketing and promotional campaigns, events and exhibitions to increase awareness of waste and recycling issues and development opportunities in the area. This will include administration of social media accounts and the post holder’s name and photograph being used in the promotion of the service
The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation and publication of information on the council's website and in other publications for all services that fall under the remit of the Head of Environmental Services.
This post will encompass duties that promote Waste Services initiatives in Medway (which may require walking or standing for long periods and physical agility), presentations at local interest groups and other public engagements.
You will be the officer responsible for the development, co-ordination and delivery of a long term communications plan and all promotion and education activities relating to the remit of Waste Services to include: Waste Collections, recycling and Street Cleansing.
To target and deal with public concerns identified through public engagement; research and develop campaigns to improve participation in and improve public perception of all Waste Services related work and ensure all campaigns and services are monitored and evaluated so that evidence based reports can be generated, ensuring that all projects and campaigns are delivered in a cost effective way and within budget, exploring and applying for external funding streams where appropriate.
The role will assist in the development of the service, including business and service planning, budgets and letting of new contracts. You will need to liaise with both internal and external partners, where appropriate and necessary, in resolving complaints and the collating of monitoring and evaluation data.
The post holder will undertake appropriate Emergency Planning duties as directed by the Council Tactical Officer which can include out of hours work at short notice and will require the post holder to be suitably trained as a 4 x4 driver and be able to support the delivery of Frontline Services including proactive work across the Environmental Service remit as required.
- GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths
- Previous experience of developing and managing communications projects
- Demonstrable experience in using Microsoft packages
- Proven track record in communicating with an audience via web media
- Proven track record in communicating at all levels and between public and private organisations.
