An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer to be part of the Safeguarding and Quality Assurance Service. As a registered social worker with Social Work England you will have a minimum of five years post qualifying experience of working with children, young people and their families, together with significant experience of working as a qualified social worker within Child Protection social work and/or Looked After Children teams. Significant experience and understanding of Family Court proceedings and the PLO process is essential. Ideally you will be Signs of Safety trained.

You will have excellent organizational skills, alongside the capacity to meet demanding targets to ensure best outcomes for children. You will be expected to chair Looked After Children Reviews within statutory timescales, facilitating the full participation of children, young people, parents and professionals. You will be responsible for efficient and effective interagency working; constructively challenging actions and interventions that are not delivering the required outcomes for Medway children and young people.

You will have a good understanding of the Independent Reviewing Officers handbook. You will need to be passionate about social work practice and how this makes a positive change to children and young peoples lives and be able to engage with them and advocate for them.

The Independent Reviewing Officer team is critical to driving improvements to bring about positive outcomes in children’s lives. As part of its quality assurance function you will monitor and evaluate the quality of practice for our children by way of scrutinizing plans and challenging practice that does not meet the required local and national standards. You will resolve issues of practice and planning in respect of children in care with staff and managers. You will actively contribute to the arrangements for case work, audit, quality assurance and performance management; use influence, knowledge and experience to contribute to the development of social work practice and positive outcomes for children.

If you are interested in being part of our journey to strengthen and improve services for some of Medway’s most vulnerable children, then we would like to hear from you.

Medway is at the heart of the Thames Gateway, only 30 miles from central London and has excellent transport links. It is a modern place, surrounded by award winning rural areas and rich heritage and an abounding cultural offering makes Medway a fantastic Place to live and work.
