The post is that of a Social Worker within the Children in Care Services, specifically dedicated to Private Fostering. It is responsible for a range of tasks to support the service in maintaining high standards and compliance with Regulations and National Minimum Standards.

Private Fostering is when a child under the age of 16 (or 18 if they have additional needs) is looked after for 28 days or more by someone who is not their parent or a close relative, and the arrangement is made privately. The Local Authority has a duty to ensure that the arrangement is suitable for the child and that it is monitored in accordance with Private Fostering regulations.

To undertake assessments of all private fostering arrangements notified to the service within regulatory timescales, having an emphasis on the safeguarding of the child within the arrangement and to liaise with the MASH team when required. To ensure all ongoing private fostering arrangements are supported and visited within regulatory timeframes.

To promote awareness of Private Fostering within the service, with partner agencies and within the community.

Deliver professional social work services within the practice standards and the statutory and regulatory framework in current use. To support children’s outcomes within Private Fostering arrangements by undertaking thorough assessments and the provision of high quality support to these arrangements. This includes statutory social work in regards to regulations and standards. Maintain accurate and contemporaneous records.

You will be responsible for attending meetings regarding the child/young person such as Children in Need meetings, Strategy Discussions etc.

You will be responsible for referrals to the service, co-ordinating joint visits with other professionals and ensuring all paperwork is signed in accordance with the criteria of private fostering.

You will liaise regularly with language schools who enable foreign students to stay with Host families to enhance their education. These referrals will be managed under Private Fostering regulations.

You will support the line manager with statistics and tracking of new referrals for monthly reports.

The Private Fostering social worker will have opportunities to develop their knowledge of Supported Lodgings and fostering recruitment, possibly undertaking assessments and supporting caseloads in these areas when necessary.
