We are seeking an experienced SEN officer with responsibility for the statutory annual review process, to join the SEN Team at Medway Council.

The role includes co-ordination of the processing of the statutory annual review documents from schools and educational settings, ensuring that all requested information is included, scrutiny of the child or young person’s progress against outcomes specified, including determination as to whether outcomes are still relevant/appropriate and liaison with schools/educational settings, parents of young people.

You must have a high standard of written and spoken English, the ability, and preferably, experience of having written action plans in some form for children and young people with SEN, and the ability to communicate effectively and concisely, including the ability to challenge where required.

You must also have demonstrable experience of ability to organise own workload to meet tight deadlines, coping well under pressure and difficult situations and ability to identify and act on own development needs.

The successful person will be expected to attend meetings with schools/educational settings and parents/carers, as well as other agencies, including attendance at the statutory annual reviews to offer advice and explanation as required.  The arranging, preparation of paperwork and chairing of annual reviews is also required for some young people.

Please be aware that within this role there is very little direct contact or work with the children or young people themselves.
